WCWC disappointed the feds won't help save spotted owl
VANCOUVER (CKNW/AM980)-- Environmental groups have failed to get Ottawa to sign an emergency provision to implement Canada's 'Species-at-Risk' Act to try to save the spotted owl.
Joe Foy with the Western Canada Wilderness Committee says the feds have decided to leave it up to the provincial government- which Foy says is disappointing because he says the province is the biggest logger of spotted owl habitat.
As for the new B.C. 'Species-at-Risk' legislation, Foy says provisions in it allow permits to let industrial users destroy endangered species and their habitats. He calls it a licence to kill.
