SPCA Cruelty Officers Seize 35 Dogs and Cats North of Kamloops
July 28, 2004. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. The BC SPCA yesterday took custody of 35 domestic animals, including 29 large English Mastiffs, one small breed dog and five cats from a rural property north of Kamloops. BCSPCA Special Provincial Constables from Kamloops, Kelowna, and Prince George were called in to assist with the warrant.
Senior Animal Protection Officer Kent Kokoska said the animals were removed because of extremely filthy and dangerous housing conditions and untreated injuries and medical conditions.
"We had visited the property and ordered the owner to take steps to relieve the animals' distress, but the individual did not do so," he said. The animals are under veterinary advisement for further care and rehabilitation.
The SPCA investigation into the case continues and charges are pending.
