Ex-President of the BC SPCA Rick Sargent is absolutely correct when he says: "Our community has been betrayed."
Victoria is an animal-loving community which gives generously to help animals in need. The BC SPCA however has stripped the BC SPCA Victoria branch of all its community programs.
The Victoria branch of the BC SPCA only takes owner-surrendered animals, all strays now go to the pounds.
The BC SPCA plans to bring its dog temperament assessment test, DTA4, to Victoria in October despite great opposition. The BC SPCA appears to not care what the general public, rescue groups and donors in Victoria want for their community at all.
For the people who have supported the Victoria branch of the BC SPCA this certainly could be classified as a betrayal.
I for one have lost all respect for the BC SPCA and while I will continue to work for the betterment of the animals in Victoria I also sincerely hope that a NEW municipal or private shelter becomes a vibrant possibility that we can all get behind and support to fruition.
