Secrecy is a diminishing option for the SPCA thanks to the internet

Old habits die hard. The SPCA's culture of secrecy is cracking... interestingly, at the branches, where not everyone can be easily controlled. Some branch staff are starting to leak the truth about killing for space and for SPCA-inflicted disease and psycholgical distress, in interviews in the local press and on their web sites' adoption pages.

This may be deliberate or unintentional, but it is happening more frequently.

Head Office is still in spin mode. The contradictory and self-damaging pronouncements that steadily come from it are fascinating.

Fascinating too is the fact that the low-paid staff in the non-unionized branches are the ones revealing the truth and thereby showing how they are trying to practice real animal welfare, while the Board of Directors and the highly paid Head Office staff, particularily the SPCA's P.R. person, are the ones doing the SPCA so much damage.

These few staff have got it right. Tell the truth, strive to do real animal welfare, and the critics will be silenced.

There are still far too few of these staff, maybe only two or three, because real animal welfarists tend to be fired or driven away by Head Office and Managers for wanting to spend too much time on humane animal welfare.

Sadly, what is best for dogs in the SPCA's care, seems to be the last thing the SPCA is willing to do
