The article below is fresh off the press in Belgium. Once they get going they are unstoppable... whether in Belgium or in Maple Ridge. The pitbulls triggering the Ontario ban were shot 12 times! I witnessed a Presa Canario shot 6 times by a military professional. The dog got free of his handler and attacked an officer crossing the courtyard. The officer was unaware of the impending attack. I was on the roof of one of the buildings and saw it coming; the handler and I yelled at the same time to a gunnery sargeant nearby who had an automatic pistol. He rattled off a series of shots. The dog continued, reached the now aware but fear-paralysed officer, killed him instantly by lunging at his throat and breaking his neck, returned to the handler, collapsed and died. We initially thought the gunny had missed, but later found six bullets in the dog.
Then again, we are in a country who messed up the gun registry and ownership so bad, that now only the bad guys enjoy ownership. Therefore, I am not too hopeful for a proper dangerous breed/dog regulation/law/registry etc.
Banning, on the other hand, is fast, easy, enforceable and can be amended as we go along. Everything else takes time, is open to interpretation, and most likely will get distorted along the way, and probably end by having achieved little, if anything.

Both legs amputated of 52 year old woman, attacked by Rottweiler
Both Alphonse Xervelle (56) and Juliette Dekens (52), from Herstal, were
attacked last night, by the same household Rottweiler belonging to their
son. Authorities said that an extremely bloody struggle took place inside the
house, between the dog and the couple, and both the ambulance and fire crews
responding to the call were shocked by what they encountered in the blood
soaked apartment. Both occupants have been rushed to hospital and have
undergone surgery, during which it was decided that both legs of Dekens had
to be amputated.
The dog, who calmed down after the attack, was put down. The incident has
brought the issue of viscious dogs in Belgium once again to
the forefront. According to "The Belgium Institute for Statistics",
in this country of 10 million, there are 1.1 million registered dogs and
1.7 million cats. Every year about 25-50 thousand people are bitten by dogs.
The issue of having no laws to protect the public, especially the most
vulnerable - the elderly and the children - has been questioned for many years.
