I am so sorry to hear another tragic report regarding the injury and death of Bojangles. I removed a cat (by fostering and then adopting when I received a call wanting him back since there was now room), from the local SPCA branch, who was in danger of having his bladder rupture, had an infection and dead tissue from overgrown nails on his front feet, and was flea infested. I had to insist on an Advantage treatment before I took him home. When I removed him from the too-small cat carrier, which the SPCA staff member put him in, as his sides were squeezed to get him out, I got soaked with urine.
What's my point? Actually it's pretty simple. I've witnessed first hand that it isn't always due to lack of money that SPCA animals don't receive even the simplest of care and monitoring. In this case, a quick going over by a medically untrained person like myself found problems that should have been addressed during the week that this poor animal suffered in silence, immobilized with fear at the SPCA.
