I take strong exception to Craig Daniell’s comments in the Vancouver Sun -
“As for Stone & the other critics, Daniell maintains his organization is open and accountable and notes that critics are “long on complaints, short on solutions”.
Over the past couple of years my husband and I have given Craig Daniell, and the Board of Directors of the BCSPCA a number of suggestions & potential solutions to some of the more significant problems facing the Society.
As one example, when the pseudo-scientific DTA4 was being introduced, much to the dismay of so many people, we obtained the assessment test for dogs that the RSPCA carries out in the UK. It is a much fairer test for the dogs and is done over a 10-day period by people that the animal has come to know. At the time Daniell expressed interest in this alternative and we supplied him with all the information that we had on it. Needless to say, nothing happened and DTA4 is sadly now being used in many of the shelters.
I’m sure that other people have had similar experiences and had their suggestions ignored.
Mr Daniell should be more careful before he makes this kind of statement. It seems to me that it’s a case of “Don’t confuse me with the facts, my mind's made up!”
