Pup found living in sealed box

A Richmond family may face charges under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act after a pup was discovered in a sealed plastic box.

Eileen Drever of the B.C. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said the four-month-old Rottweiler was attached to a short chain run out of a hole in the box and tied to an anvil. The pup had no access to water or light and could not stand in the container.

"I was absolutely appalled at seeing this dog," Drever said. "It's totally unacceptable to have a dog and keep it in those conditions."

Neighbours alerted the SPCA. Officers instructed the family on the way to care for a dog, but on returning saw no indication the family complied. They returned again to find the family using an equally unacceptable plywood box.

The dog was confiscated and the owners could face charges of causing an animal distress.
