Animal Advocates Watchdog

The SPCA mentality - epitomized by "Meener"

Monty is a pure-bred bulldog who needs a home, a real rarity in rescue. His rescuer posted him on the rehoming web site, Brindleweb, and "Meener", who works at the Prince George SPCA, applied for him even though she is part of the killing of many dogs at "her" SPCA.

Meener admits that her SPCA still kills a lot of dogs. And interestingly, she also admits the the Prince George SPCA used to take phone sale orders. That conjures up images that makes the stomach turn. How dare the bloody SPCA claim to do animal wefare, not pet selling.

We will let "Meeners" words speak for her. They are very revealing of the ethics of the average SPCA employee.

As someone who works at the SPCA in PG- I would first like to thank all the folks for writing such warm and fuzzy things about our shelter!! LOL!! Yes we do euthanize ALOT of animals, but ALOT of them are not adoptable due to aggression issues. ALOT of them are not adoptable due to health issues. ALOT of them are not adoptable due to behaviour issues. Some of the 'numbers' reflect DOA animals, low income assistance pet owners that have had a vet APPROVE the euthanising of the animal, wildlife that have been mortally injured or are to young to survive.
Saying this- I feel people should work where they are called. And if it happens to be south of the border- then so be it. It truly doesn't make a difference in OUR numbers, as we rarely have small dogs for adoption. I have never had anyone come into the shelter looking for a 'Rat Terrier' or a 'German Shepard/Rottie X'. We have had too many looking for a small dog and to little looking for a large one.
Also- due to new protocol, we can no longer adopt to people via email, the phone, etc... This means that if someone in Vancouver is interested in a dog or cat on the website they must come to the shelter in person to view the dog and apply for adoption.
