BLACKPOOL, England - The donkeys that give rides on Blackpool's famous beach will be protected by employment rights this summer, entitling them to work only from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. have an hour off for lunch and every Friday as a rest day.

The "donkey charter", which also limits the $5 trips to 200 metres, will be enforced by council officials staging spot checks at the popular northern resort.
