Re: SPCA "approves" of "Pure Bred" rescue groups

I feel like I've been slapped!

I have been doing breed rescue for many years. I don't breed, I don't show and none of my dogs have obedience titles. The closest I've got to agility is timing a Jumpers event.

I love my breed. It's not that I don't love all dogs but my experience and knowledge lies with one breed.

I love my breed so much that I negotiated with a breeder to relinguish her dogs (30+ of my breed) for six weeks and then, at my own expense, jumped on an airplane and landed in the Maritimes. I rented a van, made the 6 hour drive and picked up some of her dogs (my breed) from a horrible environment to make the return 6 hour trip, shave the dogs, bathe the dogs and put them all to bed with a kiss.

And then take them into the vet the following day to have them altered and have their assorted wounds and illnesses diagnosed and treated. The following day I groomed all the dogs, interviewed applicants and cared for the dogs in a home until we found appropriate homes.

This person of low opinion (me) spent $3000 out of her own pocket to help these dogs. Will I be reimbursed?... maybe if the fundraising brings in enough to pay for the vet bills. Having my own dogs and foster dogs cared for during my absence was another $500.

How am *I* like a bad breeder? what have *I* done to hold such disdain? I fought so that the NBSPCA wouldn't seize the dogs so "breed rescue" could give these dogs a chance for a better and healthier life. I refused press interviews so that gossip mongers wouldn't interfere. I did my work without need for applause and only to save dogs of "my breed".

You're not bad, but are you elitist?

It turned out the dog wasn’t pure so they wouldn’t help it
