Animal Advocates Watchdog

This subject has generated a lot of heat from some of the SPCA's listed partners. The starting post was meant to expose the SPCA's own elitism. In my opinion, it is despicable that anyone who works at an SPCA, or anyone else who claims to love and rescue dogs, would single out one breed of animal to help more than any other breed. I am repeating myself, but in my opinion it is an indicator of a mind-set that labels and categorizes one breed of dog and then elevates that breed - and its "rescuer" - to a special status. Purebred rescuers claim that they and their chosen breed are special - just as breeders claim. They claim that "their" breed takes specialized knowledge and they are the ones that have it. That is shallow and unbridled conceit in my opinion. Not only is it conceit, but it's hogwash. There are few breeds that I have not handled and the minor differences in their traits don't require a rocket scientist to deal with. Purebred rescuers like to elevate themselves to "specialists". What conceited drivel!

I didn't dream all this up just to be malicious. Fifteen years experience with too many purebred rescuers has given me the same low opinion in general of them as I have of breeders. What I said in my post is what informs my opinion: I have a rock-bottom opinion of anyone who "selects" what breeds they will help. This is not just prejudice on my part - "purebred" rescuers have proven over and over that their mind-sets are very close to the "breeder mind-set". Some will even turn away sterilized dogs. Some will kill, or recommending killing, any dog that has behaviour problems. Some will kill, or recommend killing, dogs with expensive medical problems. Many are as self-serving in their way as breeders are. "

Let me add to that, that I have first hand knowledge that some "rescue angels" sell sick animals, keep "hard to handle" dogs crated, and ship dogs to strangers who are hundreds, even thousands of miles away (and then boast of this). I question how anyone who has offered to rescue a dog from the SPCA when the SPCA has ignored the offer and killed the dog, can continue to be affiliated in any way with the SPCA.

Ethical rescue groups like FOTA and BHR won't touch the SPCA with a barge pole.
