Well done Big Heart Rescue! If only the SPCA would put its money where its mouth is and actually start to DO something for reserve dogs and cats, there wouldn't be so much for us little guys to do.
Pet overpopulation and abandonment is still rampant in BC. Here in North Vancouver, we are starting to see the spring surplus of kittens on the reserves and waterfront shipyards and businesses - I spent my weekend bottle feeding a litter of four that showed up at a feral cat feeding station Friday night. This feeding station is one of many that a local, all- volunteer group has set up and maintains. We trap, spay and neuter, vaccinate, deworm, and deflea feral adults and return them to the stations, where volunteers have built shelters and feed every day. Any kittens we get that are young enough to tame are carefully rehomed.
As a vet tech for the hospitals that do the altering, and as a volunteer feeder, I can only say that there is still so much work to be done. But there are also so many kind people that have given of their own money and personal time, to REALLY make a difference for these innocent little lives.
Margaret Mead once said: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
So three cheers to you, Big Heart Rescue! Here's to changing the world.
