I wholeheartedly agree with the Humane Society of Canada’s call to boycott the Calgary Stampede. Year after year horses and other animals are killed or severely injured in disgusting events such as the chuckwagon races and calf roping at the Stampede. For Joe Fardell to state that, “Rodeo is a sport and it has risks. People know that”, is probably truly the most ignorant statement that anyone could make – the horses that were panicked into jumping off the bridge into the Bow River certainly had nothing to do with any sport. In addition, this was no “tragic accident” – all this roundup was doing was putting animals needlessly at risk.
