ABBOTSFORD - A woman bitten by one of the dogs in her care Tuesday afternoon wants to head off any wild speculation about the incident.

"There was no woman attacked by five dogs on Downes Road," she said Wednesday.

Laurie, who declined to give her last name, said some reports of the incident may have fuelled the fire about the danger posed by dogs she cares for, which sometimes includes Rottweilers and pit bulls. "It was totally my fault," she said of the bite wound on her arm that required stitches. "I got bit by a dog when a couple of them were arguing."

Police and ambulance responded, but a police spokesman said it was not a police matter.

SPCA officials did return the next day, Laurie admitted, and forced her to remove some of the dogs because she did not have the proper permits to have so many dogs on her property.

But she was more concerned about bad press for the breeds she cares for at her self-described sanctuary for big dogs that have been abused.
