Dear Friend of Sea Shepherd

Today, the Sea Shepherd flagship, Farley Mowat, is in the Tasman Sea with sunny skies and calm seas, headed towards Melbourne, Australia, where we will arrive early next week.

In light of new developments in our 2005-6 Antarctic Whale Defense Campaign, we will be leaving Melbourne during the first week of December – much earlier than originally anticipated. After taking on provisions, equipment, crew, and media, we will head southward to intercept the Japanese fleet – which has already left its harbor headed to the Antarctic Whale Sanctuary. We must stop the reign of terror that the Japanese are inflicting upon the whales.

Because of our new timetable, we will need all submissions for the Time Capsule Campaign sent to our International Headquarters to arrive by Monday, November 28th. So far we have had over 400 submissions and raised almost $20,000. (All donations made to the Time Capsule Campaign go directly to support our voyage to protect the whales). Thank you to those who have contributed and send in their heartfelt messages to the future. Please join these individuals and show future generations that you actually cared about and took action to protect the world in which the discoverers of the time capsule will be living in. This is your opportunity to do something real and effective to protect the whales and to help uphold international conservation law.

The cost for the Antarctic Whale Defense Campaign, our most ambitious campaign ever, will total close to $300,000 which includes over $80,000 for fuel; $154,000 for aerial reconnaissance and a marine satellite phone to send back reports and photos from the campaign; $3,000 for oil; along with costs for provisions, docking and moorage fees; and other expenses. If you are interested in sponsoring a particular part of the campaign or piece of equipment, please contact our office to make arrangements.

So please consider being a sponsor and send what you can today and forward this message on to those who will show their concern for the whales.

In commemoration of this momentous campaign, we have also designed a new, 3” round cloth 2005-6 Antarctic Whale Defense Campaign patch. This patch features an endangered humpback whale on top of a geographical outline of Antarctica.

We have forty people of all ages, walks of life, from all over the world, who have paid their own way to join the ship and they have elected to spend their December holidays away from family and friends to try to save the precious whales that Japan is targeting – some of them on the endangered species list. With those dedicated volunteers, and your financial support, we will be successful and effective. We are a Navy of compassionate action and unfortunately navies are expensive. But we are the only Navy the whales have and the only means of stopping the whale killers of Japan.

For the oceans,
Captain Paul Watson

P.S. For those who are interested in tax deduction issues for their contributions, the Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act, section 301, suspends limitations on individual and corporate tax deductions for cash contributions to charitable organizations made between August 28 and December 31, 2005. You can contact Sea Shepherd Headquarters to find out more.
