Letters to the BC SPCA re its lawsuit against Animal Advocates Society arrive daily *LINK*

We can't adequately thank all those who wrote to the SPCA. Every letter is thoughtful and profound. The question remains: Will the SPCA understand the terrible harm it is doing to itself by rallying people to the defence of its critics? Nothing AAS has ever said about the SPCA has elicited the degree of outrage and support that the SPCA's own actions have.

The SPCA, by using the courts to threaten ruin in an attempt to silence its critics (and AAS is a long way from being the first who the SPCA has used animals' money to intimidate and threaten), is creating a monster of bad P.R., the very thing it is trying to stop with the lawsuit.

In the public forum of a court, and the coverage supplied by a media already suspicious of the SPCA because of its self-inflicted damaging behaviour, AAS's readership will increase one hundred-fold and the public will read our evidence in its morning paper. And then the information we are fed will increase also, supplying further evidence that we can use in court.

Our witnesses are ex-SPCA Board members, employees, and volunteers, police officers, crown prosecutors, Mayors and Councillors, many respected animal rescuers and welfarists and many vets. Lawyers will tell the court how the SPCA has seized healthy animals and then demanded money for their return to their owners or the animals will be killed or sold; how SPCA seizures frequently inflict more suffering on animals than where the animals were seized from; seized animals that have been neglected or mistreated to sickness and even death. We will show video made secretly of an SPCA seizure of healthy animals and then what the animals looked like after a court ordered them returned to the owners. We will show video made by the SPCA while it seized healthy purebred dogs; many of them were lounging in the owners' home on the couches, all were groomed, healthy and happy. The SPCA put them into concrete cells, sold them all, then financially ruined the owners, leaving them homeless and impoverished and causing serious emotional ill-health. We will produce transcripts of court cases that show how the SPCA distorts facts and the truth in court. We will show how the SPCA abuses its statutory powers under the PCA Act, abuse of power that results in animal suffering instead of animal welfare.

We have 50 years of documented evidence, some of it too terrible to repeat here. We have evidence that just came to us last week and more that came today. It will all be told in court. It will be told in memory of all the SPCA's helpless victims.

Or the SPCA can silence it critics by removing the people and policies that attract such mistrust and anger. It can honestly reform. And if it does, there will be little to criticize anymore. AAS will break open the Champagne when an honest SPCA means AAS can devote all of its resources to hands-on rescue work and positive advocacy.
