Pacific Animal Foundation and the Kwikwaystway Pet Program announce their 2006 Spring campaign to spay/neuter and provide medical care for animals on the Squamish First Nation lands.

A pilot project, begun last summer by Friends of the Animals Society (FOTA) and Pacific Animal Foundation (PAF), saw many animals on the Capilano Reserve benefit from basic medical services. Cherie Baker, dedicated advocate on behalf of animals and volunteer from Squamish First Nations, co-ordinated the program with FOTA and PAF. Animals were provided with a free spay or neuter, vaccination, tattoo, full deworming, and flea treatment. Other medical care was provided if necessary. Feral cats were trapped and re-released after being sterilized. Feral kittens were fostered and socialized.

This Spring, PAF is joining forces with the Kwikwaystway Pet Program, headed by Cherie Baker, to continue the good work started last summer. As part of the program, we plan to provide educational materials to children, families, and individuals to help them care for their animals.

With private rescue groups reaching out to liaise with the First Nations Communities around the Province, more and more animals will be benefiting from better treatment. Leadership, vision, and initiative get the job done !
