Test-tube meat on CBC

George Stroumboulopolous from CBC's "The Hour" interviewed a researcher from a university in Maryland last night on his show regarding test-tube meat. I know it sounds strange but the researcher, who seemed very compassionate and well-informed, was talking about the eradication of factory farming and environmental issues associated with our contemporary, and cruel, methods of raising animals for food. The idea was to "grow" meat (not an animal) for consumer purposes. Cells would be taken from free-range animals and grown in a lab. I don't know all the details but if you're interested in knowing more, you can go to www.cbc.ca/thehour and contact the producers or they may have the segment available for viewing. As well, typing in "test tube meat" in a search engine might bring up the work from this university. Very interesting!

Final thought: They posed the question on the show last night to all vegetarians watching: "Would you eat test tube meat if you knew no animals were harmed?"
