Rest in Peace Sadie. For a short while you were much loved *LINK*

Three months ago a sweet, gentle old dog came into FOTA Rescue and into our home. She was a black Labrador/Retriever whom we named Sadie. Sadie had spent the last ten years of her life on a length of electricians wire and while she did have a dog house with a dirty tarp across the opening it was always wet inside when it rained and there were no soft blankets to cushion her old bones. Sometimes she was fed depending if anyone remembered, in fact when she came to FOTA it was over a week before her owner realized she was missing and asked his tenant if he had seen her, during those eight days Sadie would not have been fed.

The night she came to our home it was 9:30 at night and very wet and cold. Sadie sat in the back seat of her rescuer’s car soaking wet and smelling to high heaven but looking as if going for a car rid was the norm. She came trustingly into the house and into the guest bathroom where she had the last ten years of grime washed off her in a nice warm bath. That night clean, warm and with a full tummy she slept on a pile of quilts in the kitchen.

The next day a trip to the vet for a check up and x-rays confirmed her kidneys were only working at 12 % , hence the wet patches everywhere, and the instability in her rear end was muscle atrophy due to lack of exercise, other than that she was just plain old.

For the next three months Sadie lived with us and our two dogs Lady and Jake. During that time she never barked or whimpered, hated to go outside even for a pee running for the door to her haven as soon as she was done, she ignored Lady’s kisses, loved to be brushed and lived for her food.

Monday April 3rd Sadie’s kidneys started to shut down and on Tuesday April 4th. Sadie went peacefully to sleep with her head on my lap.

Rest in Peace Sadie. For a short while you were much loved.
