Animal Advocates Watchdog

Nanaimo SPCA stats and stories *LINK*

At the Nanaimo SPCA in the last 12 years not a single animal has been killed because of lack of funds, or overcrowding, or any other reason, other than illness and in one case, that I am aware of, a dog so irreversibly vicious, that there was no choice, but to let the poor animal go. Animals shown euthanized did not include any at all, which could have been saved at any possibility.
I don't know how many other shelters can make such a statement. If an animal must be put down, it is a sad and tearful time, as every creature in the shelter is a pet of the staff.
If an animal is sick, or too much stressed,a staff member will take it home over night and back to work so it has 24 hour care for as many days and nights as needed.
Such is the spirit and dedication in that shelter.
While I had the Chair in Nanaimo, I was very much involved in shelter operation, not that the manager needed any help from me, but purely because of necessary team work with the CAC.
And all that time and ever since I have known this shelter and staff, I never had the slightest cause to doubt, or criticize.
