In recent months I have seen on various Newscasts that a fair number of people throughout B.C. have been hailed as heroes and have received awards from the Lieutenant Governor and the Premier. These individuals have dived into swollen rivers , run into burning buildings, plunged themselves into cars about to explode and fended off many other life-threatening catastrophes. All well and good.

In my opinion, however, there are unsung heroes in our midst who give of themselves naturally and continuously and who do not receive recognition and who do not even want it.

I can think of one paramount example. Who would recognize that adopting a lost cat is heroic? Who would recognize that rescuing 75 who need help is courageous? Who would try and feed 75 unwanted cats out of her or his personal income? Who would worry about an old dog seized for no reason at at all ? Who would tend to farm animals as if they were the most important beings in his or her life? Who would do all this during a serious illness? And who, during that excruciating illness, would be concerned, primarily, for the well-being of all those animals?

Gwen Wilson would. Gwen Wilson is a hero of the first magnitude!
