A longtime local horse breeder and trader is letting everyone know what he thinks of the SPCA.

John van Dongen, uncle of the former agriculture minister of the same name, is upset at what he says is the SPCA's refusal to pay court-awarded costs in connection with the seizure of several of his horses three years ago.

After holding a protest, complete with signs and a horse, at the animal control society's Vancouver headquarters last week, van Dongen placed protest signs on his property in the 9300-block of Ladner Trunk Road.
