GVAC holds clinic for the pets of Victoria's street people

GREATER VICTORIA ANIMALS' CRUSADERS (GVAC) is excited to announce that they will be joining Rev. Al Tysick of Our Place ( street people's resource and social centre), 713 Johnson Street, in implementing a much needed free Street Veterinary Clinic which includes a free spay/neuter program for Victoria's street dogs and cats.

The first GVAC Veterinary Street Clinic will be held Monday, June 12, 2006 from 12:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and will be repeated in the months of July and August 2006.

Dr. Kam Brar of LifeLine Animal Hospital on Shelbourne will be in attendance, providing vaccinations, flea treatments, de-wormers and antibiotics if required. Along with these important services for the dogs and cats, complimentary nail clipping and pet food will be offered. Appointments for Spay/Neuter surgeries will also be booked for both dogs and cats.

Greater Victoria Animals' Crusaders is a non-profit organization with charity status that has been providing animal welfare in the Greater Victoria area for over 30 years. We believe strongly that all animal communities should be kept healthy to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

GVAC is committed to providing:

Ø Financial assistance to low income families for Spay/Neutering of their pets and to assist with other vet costs as required.

Ø Assist the Capital Regional District (CRD) Pound with veterinary and Spay/Neuter expenses for stray/abandoned animals

Ø Assist with Boarding and vet costs for the pets of women and children going into Transition Houses

Ø A foster and adoption program to help find loving homes for stray and abandoned animals (we are dependant upon people opening up their homes and helping us by fostering until permanent homes can be found)

Ø Feed, trap, spay/neuter feral cat colonies throughout Greater Victoria. We tame and find homes for the feral kittens whenever possible.

Ø Fund rehabilitation of injured stray pets when resources permit.

Ø Promote animal welfare by setting a good example and educating the public on the importance of spay and neutering their pets.

Ø To work co-operatively with other animal welfare groups.

Ø GVAC helps over 1500 companion animals each year.

Greater Victoria Animals' Crusaders is run by volunteers with 100% of funding going towards animal welfare. We rely 100% on private donations to be able to continue this valuable work for the Greater Victoria animals.
