VANCOUVER - City staff from the Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program, Vancouver Animal Shelter, the Vancouver park board, Neighborhood Integrated Services, Community Webpages and Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services will join with community agencies to present a day of fun and education about animals for the whole family Saturday at John Hendry Park at Trout Lake.

The day starts at 11 a.m., when Coun. George Chow will proclaim the day as Dog Day in the City. Coun. Kim Capri (accompanied by her Boxer Heike) and Vancouver park board vice-chair Ian Robertson (accompanied by his golden retriever Abby) will also make remarks. This will be followed by a Walk of Honour around Trout Lake to pay tribute to working dogs killed in the line of duty.

The day will officially launch Training Rex in the City, Basic Obedience for Dogs.
