Canadian Food Inspection Agency invites submissions on updating transport rules

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) -- the federal agency responsible for overseeing farm animal transport regulations -- has announced it is inviting submissions from the public with a view to updating Canada's outdated farm animal transport regulations.

The agribusiness lobby is hard at work trying to persuade the CFIA that existing laws are fine, so it is up to us to speak up for the animals.

Please take a moment to email these key people at the CFIA, telling them you care about the welfare of farm animals and support stronger farm animal transport laws.

Dr. Martin Appelt, Humane Transportation of Animals Specialist: appeltm@inspection.gc.ca

Dr. Gordon Doonan, Senior Staff Veterinarian: gdoonan@inspection.gc.ca

See below for some background facts and specific things you can ask for.

Thank you on behalf of the farm animals!
