Re: Use of the gas box at the New Westminster Pound:

Dear Mayor Wright and Councillors,

It was recently brought to our attention that the New Westminster Pound is still using a gas box to kill animals.

We are writing to add our voice to those of others who are shocked that you would permit such barbaric cruelty to animals, urging you to discontinue the use of the gas box.

When we first learned that the gas box was being used at the Pound, we went to your website where we read that your pound is described as a “shelter”. This is of course false. No “shelter” kills the sheltered, much less inflicts terrible cruelty on them.

And so we also urge you to stop using the deceptive word “shelter” until you truly do shelter helpless animals.
