Please explain to me how a live trap can be more risky than a lethal one

Quote from the Conservation Officer: "The traps were lethal ones, because there wasn’t the room for a live trap to properly work, and they’re more risky to other animals and people."

In what way are live traps more dangerous to animals and people than lethal traps?

There is nothing about this entire incident that makes sense - from the setting of lethal traps in a place that is frequented by children and animals, to the idea that killing the beaver is a better solution to re-locating them.

It certainly makes one wonder how often these potentially deadly traps are set out and the public does not accidentally find them. And it also makes one question just what is the true purpose of a 'conservation office', if it so readily kills wildlife.
