Re: Female grizzly bear shot, cubs orphaned (Star, August 20):

Some say bears are dangerous predators. Yukon Conservation Officers are investigating the murder of a grizzly bear, whose killing orphaned her cubs who were apparently heard "bawling off in the bush". This would not surprise me, since they were grieving the loss of their mother: a family destroyed by a coward with a gun!

Conservation officer Kris Gustafson was on CBC Wednesday, said there could be charges under the "wildlife act" for the killing of this bear.

There is NO difference to the bears wheather they are killed "legally" or "illegally"--their life was taken from them--a family destroyed !.

If the good people who make up the Department of Enviornment are truly concerned for bears-- they would abolish the bear hunt altogether instead of permiting the killing of bears when and where they say it is OK.

Bears have also been orphaned due to "permit" hunts when a female bear was (accidentally?) killed-- but this was excused because it was a case of mistaken identity. .

I'm sure the Department of Environment would like these two bear cubs to survive to adulthood so they or "their" family members can be murdered "legally" under their watchful eye another day. And some say Bears are dangerous predators. Right!

To me, this is just as barbaric as poaching a bear (or any other animal).

The killing of innocents continues!
