Excessive bird and bat kills by wind farms *LINK*

When I hear the word wind farms bandied around, I always get a sinking feeling. I felt from the start that those huge rotating blades could create great carnage to birds and it is happening in the States. Birds of all kinds and bats are dying in record numbers. Bats are vital in keeping crop destroying insects in check. Eliminate bats and other insect eating birds, alternatives are pesticides.
James Hoare wrote an article in The Heartland Institute, published in February 1, 2006 about 2 West Virginia Democrats who are leading the fight against the huge industrial wind farms in their states. In 2004, a study was done whereby 2,000 bats were killed in a six week period. Estimates were in the range of 50,000 bats per year would die when the wind farms reached their 10-fold increase and with their slow reproductive rate, they could not sustain those type of kill rates. That was 4 years ago.
