I've just learned that a lady of my acquaintance passed away after a serious illness. I didn't know her well. We met through the animal network. For years, Lavone made sure that any news about animals which hit the newspapers was seen by animal lovers who may not get those papers. She forwarded all the stories faithfully. It was her way of helping the animals and it was a great service. It allowed me the chance to reply about controversial issues with letters to editors in support of the animals. Lavone loved animals with all her heart and she was a really good person. I'm stunned and saddened to hear of her passing and wanted a way to commemorate her. Saying good-bye to her on the AAS WatchDog News seems fitting.
