The Clash - Applying to kill the Harris Pit Bulls *PIC*

The heavily media-covered application by the BC SPCA, acting as the paid animal-control agency for the City of Surrey, to kill the Pit Bulls owned by Hal Harris, momentarily lifted the veil that tends to obscure the knowledge that an animal welfare agency is also the agency that applies to have some dogs killed, even without testing them to see if they are innocent, even in this case it appears, to kill puppies.

But only because someone intervened in the process. Lauren Phillips was so appalled by the SPCA's application for the City of Surrey to the Provincial Court to kill the Harris dogs (one or more of them described as puppies) without any attempt to find out if they were actually safe dogs, that she hired a lawyer to stop the application. Eight years after the SPCA's Community Consultation Report recommended the SPCA get out of animal control, the SPCA, with a mandated duty to protect dogs from people, is still actively and even aggressively pursuing contracts that require it to kill dogs for a municipality's duty to protect people.
