Surrounded by beauty, they go out with the expectation of killing someone who is a part of that beauty

I have to agree with Mary, and say that I don't understand why people hunt.
I have spent hours in the woods trapping feral cats to do T/N/R, and give the cats a chance at a happy life.
And hours in the woods "hunting" for missing dogs and cats.
Hours in the woods walking with my dogs, or alone.
It never occurred to me that my time in the woods could include killing someone.
I have never shot a gun. Hopefully I never will.
Tried archery with a friend - we did the indoor kind, with the colored circle paper targets.
The thought of well fed North Americans trekking through our woods to kill another living animal distresses me.
I don't understand the mentality of hunters. Surrounded by beauty, they go out with the expectation of killing someone who is a part of that beauty.
