Animals for the killing in the "Larger than Life" Yukon. the bison blood bath gets underway

So the bison blood bath gets underway (Star. Sept 26/08)

The killing season has begun!

Bison were introduced in the Yukon for more hunting opportunities and what a "success story" this has become. They are not only considered a "species of least concern", but they have apperently become out of control, and much killing must be done. An animal that once teamed by the millions in North America and the "Wildlife Experts" guesstimate there is a least 1,100 bison, which is apparently 600 too many. So the Yukon government would like 200 bison to be killed this winter, and it is "open season" on bison.

The Porcupine caribou numbers continue to decline (Star Sept. 25), yet the Yukon and N.W.T government biologist continue to look for reasons to kill many of them. There is a proposal to "manage" caribou by using colour coded signs (a green, yellow, orange or red sign is supposed to indicate the "health of the herd"). A "green" sign will indicate the caribou population is high and "no hunting restriction is in place". Stop right there! Are these people serious that there could actually be no restrictions on the killing of these caribou? Did they forget why the caribou have declined in the first place? Right; human greed and the lust to kill.

Wolves: man's biggest scapegoat, which continue to be murdered without just cause, either by hunting and/or trapping--another cruel occupation that must be abolished

So when do hunters get to "take out" a few elk, which are (along with bison and dear) another introduced species that has become a "problem" wildlife story?

When are we humans going to evolve? We don't need eat animals to survive, so let's stop killing them. Clearly this government isn't going to stop the killing, so let's have a voluntary moratorium on hunting.

To reinforce how powerful the "culture" of killing wild animals is in the Yukon and the inherent speciesism in human beings, one only has to take notice of the pro-hunting advertisements by local merchants. Take a look at the huge number of ads in the 2008/09 hunting manual from the Department of Environment (a menu for the killing).
And take a look at the huge and recent billboard by the "safety network" (which includes WCB Yukon) at the bottom of Two Mile Hill. The sign shows a man pointing a huge gun with rage on his face and the sign reads: "I love to HUNT too much to work next to someone who is loaded; the last thing I need is to get hurt at work". Yeah, please don't hurt your pee-pee at work otherwise you might not be able to get out and enjoy nature and kill someone else (wild animals).

What the hell is WCB Yukon doing promoting the killing of sentient nonhuman beings, anyway? Talk about being "loaded"! Take the billboard down and stick to the safety business, WCB, please.

And the killing continues in our "Larger than Life" destination!

Pathetic!
