The Brigitte Bardot Foundation to the Queen of Denmark : "hundreds of sled dogs chained to their deaths in trash pits" *LINK* *PIC*

Here is the letter from The Brigitte Bardot Foundation to the Queen of Denmark, her royal highness Margarethe II.

Marcelle Welter

"The recent airing of a television report on global warming and its impact on the environment has provoked many horrified reactions from the TV viewers - especially after witnessing hundreds of sled dogs chained to their deaths in trash pits.
This is not a new situation, nor an isolated case. It happens every summer, but it has now reached epidemic proportions, since as soon as the ice melts, these dogs are considered as “waste” by the Inuit populations.
Dogs are chained, by the hundred, and abandoned in desert arid areas. I have under my very eyes a picture a young bitch eaten by other hungry companions, with her puppies condemned to certain death in a similar way by other dogs.
It is just not possible to accept this horrific situation. I therefore humbly beg you to intervene to end this scandalous, undignified barbaric practice. If dog is man’s best friend, then man has to be dog’s worst enemy to allow this.
This comes on top of the annual scandalous massacre of hundreds of pilot whales in the Islands of Feroe. The massive killing of these small cetaceans, drawn to the coast to be beaten to death with hooks and knives, is an unbearable butchery under the open skies.
Denmark should not allow another occasion to be associated with inhumane and distasteful practices that disgust, and rightly so, public opinion all over the world.
Although the Feroe Islands and Groenland are indeed two different autonomous regions, they are nevertheless legally attached to Denmark.
It is just not thinkable nor permitted for a member nation of the European Union to behave with such archaism and such violence towards animals.
I humbly beg your Majesty to hear my plea and not leave unanswered my call for help.
I place immense hope in you, and send you my most respectful and sincere considerations."
