The SPCA didn't think it was cruel to boil crabs alive *LINK* *PIC*

Not everyone think that boiling crabs is cruel: not even that it causes distress, the offence under the BC Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

The SPCA didn't think it was cruel or that it causes distress (surely the SPCA would not do anything that would be an offence under the PCA Act), when it permitted its Prince Rupert branch to sell live-boiled crabs for at least two years. It may still think it's okay to boil crabs alive. Searching the SPCA site for a policy statement about boiling animals alive finds nothing, an odd oversight by an animal welfare society.
