Carcross/Tagish First Nation leads the way in Yukon to limit unwanted dogs *LINK*

[Excerpt from Winter 2008 Carcross/Tagish First Nation newsletter]

Oh Those Dogs!

Dogs have always played a significant role in the lives of First Nations people. For centuries, they have been relied upon for hunting, packing, transportation, protection and companionship. They have shared the land with their keepers and have been the subjects of myths and legends passed down over generations.

The Carcross/Tagish First Nation recognizes the important relationships between people and their canine companions. CTFN is taking a leading role in the Yukon by offering free dog registration at the CTFN Main Administration Building. People registering their dogs will also receive a free leash so they can walk safely with their dogs near traffic and around other dogs and people.

In addition to these efforts, CTFN will be sponsoring a spay/neuter clinic in late January, 2009. The three-day clinic has been scheduled to be held January 25 to 28 at the Community Club in Carcross.

The spay/neuter clinic will provide citizens with an opportunity to continue showing compassion to our canine companions by providing a safe and effective means of controlling the dog population.

People wanting to take advantage of free dog registration and/or the spay/neuter clinic should contact Leslie Kerr at (867) 821-8239, or by email at leslie.kerr@ctfn.ca

[What about the cats??? - anyhow, good for CTFN for doing this - Terry C.]
