Dear Sir/Madam:

With regards to your promotional contest of a draw to win a rabbit, I am hoping this letter may help you to see another side of this action. Please allow me to give you some examples of why this type of promo could result in a lot of distress for both the animals and the people who win them.

Firstly, many homes are not suitable to keeping rabbits, as they aren't aware of the animals' needs and safety issues. Most often, the rabbit will be kept in a little cage for most, if not all, of it's days. If it is let out of the cage, it can chew on many items that will be harmful - electrical cords being just one of them.

Quite often, the nutritional needs are not met, either. Lettuce and carrots are not the only foods a rabbit needs to remain healthy. Should a health problem arise, how many people will pay money to a vet to have it treated well? Again, thousands of people just let an un-wanted rabbit go out into the parks and bush because of an incorrect idea that it will know how to fend for itself. We find literally thousands of rabbits that were 'dumped' that way with frozen ears, injuries from attacks by other animals, and many more deadly problems.

If the rabbits you are giving away are not spayed or neutered, this, too, will become a major issue when they are put out into the wild and propagate. Many communities across the country are dealing with this exact mess right now - the dilemma is just how to kill these creatures, ideas ranging from letting people shoot them, to lethal blows to the head.

Please consider another way to entice the public to use your services. I hope that this letter may give you food for thought and that you will be kind enough to take this information to heart.
