Wonder where the BCSPCA sits on this?

Angela, the idea that gassing is "OKAY" because the cats are "Wild" is ludicrous. You say you have trapped. How did the vets manage to handle these wild cats? Not all ferals, as seem to be painted in the news article, and from you, are mangy old cats (who still deserve to be treated with care). Many are kittens. Why should they suffer at the hands of humans who have caused the problem in the first place. The overpopulation of cats is one thing but inhumane euthanasia is another. Cruelty is cruelty. I don't see this as being acceptable. For the public to turn a blind eye.
