Dear Premier Campbell:

Here is some information to stop the killing of beavers at Comox.

Humane Methods:
......1. The Ft. Langley park peple (GVRD now called Metro Vancouver) re: cutting a tree. Their link is http://www.metrovancouver.org/services/parks_lscr/Pages/default.aspx

2. Pond levelers - lots of info by googling > Canadian g...ovt puts out this info http://www.wetkit.net/modules/1/showtool.php?tool_id=253

Also > MINNCOR Beaver Pond Leveler Environmentally and creature friendly, non-lethal solution to the problem of beaver pond flooding

3. Fencing can also be wrapped around trees.

Relocation:
Relocate the Beaver - Beaver relocation is an extremely challenging process and needs to be done only with extreme care. The greatest challenge comes from the territorial nature of beaver and the huge population of beaver within the province. If we simply move the beaver to a spot with another colony, they will literally kill each other for territory. In general, with the population explosion of beaver in our province, if an area is not habited, there is a good reason why. In many cases, beaver move away from locations once food supplies are diminished or when water levels become too low. The other real challenge with relocating beaver is the lateness of the season. With fall only two months away, exposing a colony of beaver to a site where they do not have a lodge, stored food, secure habitat, and potential predators, the likelihood of a successful relocation can be a significant challenge

So we recommend no killing and no relocation. The humane methods, such as pond levelers, are proven to be humane and successful. Please advise us if you will tell the appropriate government officials to not kill the beavers.
