SPCA... this is what you get for being in bed with animal researchers.

UBC keeps using the SPCA approval of what it does to animals as its defence

Heard it again... this time on CKNW's Sean Leslie show on Saturday. He was interviewing the head of UBC's animal research Dr Hepburn who said twice that nothing can be wrong with the way animals are treated because the SPCA approves. He said that the SPCA can inspect anytime it wants.

Do the SPCA make surprise inspections the way they do to less powerful people? Did they ever worry that one day UBC would say everything is okay with the way we torture animals because the SPCA says so? Will the SPCA get out of bed with the Animal Researchers at UBC now that Doctor Hepburn has revealed the relationship for what it is... the way for UBC to get around animal cruelty?

If it can be legal to keep animals in little cages at UBC, why isn't it legal to keep Puppy Mill pups in little cages? The SPCA told the media repeatedly for years that it has seized animals because they are kept in small spaces. If its excusable at UBC because its 'according to standard practices' then it has to be excusable 'according to standard practices' for breeders too. I look forward to some smart person using the SPCA's approval of keeping animals in small spaces at UBC as a defence. Not because I approve of the way breeders keep animals but because I don't approve of the way that UBC keeps animals.
