Subject: Immediate and Drastic Change Needed
Dear Mr. Daniell,
I am the co-ordinator of GVAC; Greater Victoria Animals' Crusaders; a 30 year old spay and neuter society in Victoria. The relationship our society has with the Victoria CAC and the Victoria Shelter is excellent and together we have made a visible difference in the number of kittens available in Victoria presently. There are remarkably few compared to previous years at this time.
However, since the April 28, 2003 introduction of C.A.M.P. to Victoria much unrest has developed. I wrote you May 6, 2003 with my concerns as to the implementation of C.A.M.P. here in Victoria and received no reply. My concerns have not changed.
How can I be expected to pass on information that could result in a seizure if I cannot expect the animal to receive compassion and rehabilitation?
The Beaverdell Dogs were not. They were literally seized, warehoused and euthanized.
The Port Alberni Dogs that were seized are basically a mystery. Could you please let me know how many of the 36 dogs were adopted to new, loving homes?
The 34 dogs in Kamloops that were surrendered have also not been rehabilitated. Where did the first 15 dogs go and what remediation have they received? How many are adopted out? How many are still waiting to be adopted? Of the 19 remaining we know 2, Brenda and Tamra, have been euthanized. What remediation are the others to receive?
It truly saddens me to be asking these questions. For years I have volunteered with the BCSPCA, from the time of dogwalking with my mother in West Vancouver 40 years ago to today and I want to be proud of the association.
Seizing the animals is only the first part of the total equation. Rehabilitation and finding new and loving homes is the rest,
Can you start today making immediate and drastic changes that will truly make a difference to cruelty cases in B.C.? I hope so because the animals are depending on YOU.
Awaiting your reply,
Carol Sonnex
