Re: "SPCA needs to control noise," letters, Dec. 5.

I would like to respond to a very serious allegation made against the B.C. SPCA in this letter.

It stated that the provincial body of the B.C. SPCA has "grabbed" away major funds held by the Victoria branch. This is a damaging and completely false allegation.

Not a single penny of funds held by the Victoria branch has been spent elsewhere by the provincial society. The B.C. SPCA is one legal entity with 31 branches around the province and therefore the society is the legal owner of any funds donated throughout B.C.

However, the practice of the B.C. SPCA is to ensure that funds designated to a particular branch remain in that community. This is the case with the Victoria branch, where designated funds remain in the capital region to help animals in need.

Sadly, when false statements like the one expressed in the letter are printed and donations to the SPCA drop off, it is the abandoned and abused animals who depend on SPCA programs and services who ultimately pay the price.

Volunteer President,

A challenge to the SPCA Board of Directors
Should this case go all the way to trial it would cost the SPCA $300,000 plus and the defendants $150,000 plus
The SLAPP happy BC SPCA - $100,000 and counting?
Cheryl Dawson's letter the Times Colonist that the SPCA threatened to sue her for
Then-BC SPCA President, Michael Steven, rebuts
The SPCA did not threaten to sue Ms. Dawson, they did sue her
The SPCA..."Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals" needs to live up to its name
The idea is generally not to let the case go to court but to drain resources and effort from the financially weaker party *LINK*
What are SLAPP suits? *LINK*
BC did have anti-SLAPP legislation until the Liberals got rid of it
Dysfunctional then, dysfunctional now
I attended a meeting in Victoria around the same time
It is because of this lawsuit that I have not donated in the past few months
Lawyers don't need the money as much as animals do! I know, my husband is a lawyer
I ask that the revenues you have be spent on what the donors expect, the animals.
I would like to see more coverage in the media about this ongoing issue
Shame on you SPCA! Live up to your name!
Do something for chained dogs and your critics will turn into your greatest supporters of all
Thankfully God has given a heart for animals to many like WWF, Service Dogs, AAS, and the courage to individuals to speak out
I can't understand why a Society with the means to do so doesn't use its funds to take care of the animals, rather than target other animal groups
