Officials pledge to review communications in wake of toxic spill in river

SQUAMISH/CKNW(AM980) - B.C.'s Environment Ministry is pledging to fully examine its notification efforts, following Friday's chemical spill and train derailment in the Cheakamus River near Squamish.

Some residents have complained it took too long for them to be notified of the potentially toxic flow in the river.

Lance Sundquist with the Environment Ministry says once they've dealt with the immediate issues -- which includes well water testing -- issues around communications will be looked at.

Crews still need to remove the C.N. Rail car from the river, which still has over 10-thousand litres of Caustic Soda in it.

That isn't likely to happen until Thursday.
