Letter to the editor: This was predicted by many of us involved in Animal Welfare in Victoria

Yes, there is a cat-astrophe happening in Victoria presently.

This was predicted by many of us involved in Animal Welfare in Victoria. Presently there are a few things that people can do to help that are not mentioned in the article.

Obviously if someone is looking to adopt a cat they should adopt one from either one of the rescue groups or a local shelter.

If someone owns a cat that is not spayed or neutered they should ensure this is done as soon as possible. If assistance is required due to financial hardship phoning their local vet will get them the phone numbers of the societies able to help. There is help out there so please ask if it is really needed but others can also help by donating to their local spay/neuter societies so that we can continue to provide assistance to those who need it and to the stray animals who also require assistance.

Victoria Cat Rescue Corps Society

All of the local groups are also looking for foster homes at this time. If someone can offer a spare bedroom to a stray cat or a pregnant mom cat please contact either Greater Victoria Animals' Crusaders http://www.members.shaw.ca/gvac/ , Victoria Cat Rescue Corps Society http://www.victoriacatrescue.com/ , Dee's Orphan Kitten Fund http://www.coastnet.com/~pawznclawz/ or Victoria Adoptables http://www.victoriaadoptables.com/ .

Yes, there is a cat-astrophe in Victoria at the moment, BUT if everyone takes a moment and just does what they can to help much will be accomplished and many, many lives will be saved.

Vets recommend Greater Victoria Animal Crusaders for help - not the SPCA
Losing market share - it's a no-brainer
TV ads that promote irresponsible pet purchasing one more nail in the SPCA's coffin
