The CRD pound is a pound, the dog-catcher, the controller of stray and dangerous dogs for society. Pounds have no animal welfare mandate. The CRD pound does not get donations from fooled animal-lovers by pretending it is an animal welfare agency. Pounds exist to protect the public from dangerous and stray dogs. So one would expect a pound to give away dog houses as "prizes". When the SPCA gives away a dog house as a prize, it show clearly what AAS has been saying for years - it is the dog-catcher too. But it is a very dishonest dog-catcher, disguised as an animal-welfarist.

Many pounds have named themselves "animal welfare shelters" in order to hide their real purpose, a purpose that was always hated, and is now more reviled than ever. Some are actually practicing more animal welfare than the SPCA, the agency that almost everyone believes is not the dog-catcher and is the animal welfarist. Quiet a mess all this P.R. has created - a hurricane of spinning P.R. by all the dog and pet disposing companies and agencies, all using fake P.R. to hide what their real purpose is. But as long as society permits the owning of dogs large enough to be a public danger and allows breeds that are bred deliberately to be dangerous, and allows the desocializing of dogs, dog control must exist, and in fact, is not ignoble. It is the cheap and callous way pounds treat dogs that is ignoble. And it is the misleading combination by the BC SPCA of paid dog-catcher with "sheltering" that is so unethical.

Pounds have an excuse for not knowing better than to give a dog house as a "prize". What is the BC SPCA's excuse?
