Good News in SPCA Financial Picture
The extraordinary efforts made by staff and volunteers around the province to address the Society’s operating deficit have started to pay dividends. For the first time in several years, the Society has recorded a surplus by the end of the second quarter. The Society posted a $47K surplus (after amortization) as of June 30th – an achievement made even more impressive by the fact that most of the Society’s revenue from direct mail, Paws for a Cause and other fundraising efforts are traditionally received in the last three months of the year. While the surplus is due primarily to large legacies, our improved financial picture is an achievement shared by all branches who made a superb effort to increase fundraising and to keep operating expenses within budget.

A special note to thanks goes to the branch managers for their diligence in monitoring expenses, especially Sara Dubois of Wild Arc, and Lorrain Chiorando of Nanaimo, whose branches are significantly ahead of budget this year.

While the Society must continue to increase revenues and control expenses in order to achieve on-going financial stability and restore our depleted reserves, we have a lot to celebrate in 2005. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to each and every staff member and volunteer who has helped to turn our financial situation around. Thank you!!!

This probably includes the almost $1,000,000 legacy that the Society received in Victoria
The deficit has been improved by denying care to animals
It is far from a sure thing that the SPCA can be saved from itself
