DELTA - When Delta police Const. Sean Doolan took the complaint from a young boy and his mom, he couldn't believe his ears.

Two little black Lab-cross puppies, just hours old with their umbilical cords still attached, had been abandoned in Ladner. The pups were found at Hawthorne elementary around 1 p.m. Saturday. The officer took the puppies to the Trenant Park Pet Clinic, where Dr. Kevin Harris was working. Harris wasn't surprised. The vet and his assistants were already busy taking turns feeding another black Lab-cross puppy found by a resident in a Ladner park earlier that morning.

Later that day, two more puppies were brought into Harris's clinic by another resident. Unfortunately, these ones were dead, found abandoned in a white plastic Safeway bag. One of the puppies had managed to crawl out of the bag. All five are believed to be from the same litter. Doolan is investigating the incident. "Criminal charges are possible," he said.
