Jack Layton and foie gras

I came across a radio article in Animal Voices that talked about Jack Layton spreading foie gras on his toast at a Toronto restaurant.
As if that wasn't upsetting enough, the show's host (who has yet to get a response to the questions he put to Mr. Layton), had talked with Mr. Layton previously, regarding animal rights issues.

Mr. Layton had assured him that the animal rights movement has his attention, and that he is invoved with Animal Alliance.
Mr. Layton apparently also stated that he is in support of Bill C - 50, the proposed animal cruelty bill.

The hypocrisy of this infuriated me, so I immediately e-mailed Mr. Layton at Layton.J@parl.gc.ca

Dear Mr. Layton,
I was dismayed to hear that although you say you are sensitive to animal rights issues, you eat foie gras.
Surely you know the torment involved in the production of foie gras.
I have always voted NDP, and was planning to do so in this upcoming election. However, I will abstain from voting at all, if you can not assure me that you will not participate in the horrendous and absolutely needless suffering of animals.
Sincerely,
