In praise of pit bulls

I am a pit bull owner who is tired of defending my dog.

Every time an article is published condemning pit bulls, I'm slammed by neighbours with ridiculous lockjaw theories and sermons about the breed's evils.

Meanwhile, every owner I encounter shares my joy in the breed's loyalty, bravery and intelligence.

Sheila Hughes' comments were as offensive as the death of her cat. I'm sorry her pet died, but don't turn it into a crusade. No animal is moral, no animal is evil. That's the animal kingdom.

Having said that, pit bulls are powerful, strong-willed animals, with a remarkable tolerance for pain. An owner who doesn't understand this should stick to smaller pets.
